Making Sure Your Online Psychology Degree is Legitimate

However, there are several fake diploma mills that are willing to take your money and hand you a piece of paper with a seal. Knowing what you are dealing with when getting your legitimate online degree can make finding psychology degree programs online a much better experience.
Fake online diplomas hurt everyone who considers psychology degree programs online. When a graduate with a legitimate online degree goes into the marketplace, they may not be considered with as high of a regard as a student who attended a traditional school because employers are wary of online universities. While they may have been enrolled in legitimate psychology degree programs at a reputable online university, the employer may take a “safer” route and hire a candidate from the traditional university.
Getting a legitimate online degree from a recognized university may also weigh more with a future employer than getting a legitimate online degree from an online only company. While the psychology degree programs may be exactly the same at both universities, the employer may consider it more of a legitimate online degree if it comes from Stanford than if it comes from Jones International.
So if you decide to go with psychology degree programs online, there are some ways to identify which ones are legitimate online degrees and which ones are coming from a diploma mill. First, check the accreditation of the school. Some diploma mills will come up with their own accreditation process to appear more legit. The U.S. Department of Education can give you more information on a university’s accreditation.
Another way to ensure that you are going to get a legitimate online degree is to check the legitimacy of the Internet University in question. The Council for Higher Education Accreditation has this information. Or, you can choose to write to the Diploma Mill Police, an organization that authenticates online universities.
Going with your gut instinct can also be helpful as well. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, there is a good chance that it probably is. When you earn a legitimate online degree, you can generally expect the same amount of coursework and assignments that you would receive at a traditional university. Online degree programs that promise you a diploma in a vastly shortened time span or with very little work involved need closer consideration.
